Job Purpose

To lead and innovate in the design and delivery of high-quality storytelling programmes, mentor colleagues, and contribute to the strategic goals of the National Literacy Strategy. The selected candidate will be engaged on a basis of a definite contract of 12 months, back-to-back.

Roles and Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the CEO and/or his/her delegate, the post-holder shall fulfil the following roles and responsibilities:

· Promote the vision, aims and objectives of the Literacy Strategy.

· Design, prepare, and lead the delivery of high-quality storytelling sessions using multisensory resources.

· Design and assist in the setup and organization of storytelling areas.

· Develop and evaluate educational resources and toolkits in both Maltese and English.

· Collaborate with team members, including mentoring and supporting others in session planning and delivery.

· Promote book borrowing and reading habits in schools and libraries.

· Maintain accurate attendance and session records.

· Support literacy initiatives through modelled sessions for parents/caregivers and/or educators.

· Participate in training and professional development activities.

· Contribute towards and deliver training sessions and workshops for staff and stakeholders.

· Contribute to programme evaluation and reporting.

· Represent the Agency in literacy promotion events and initiatives.

· Innovate and propose new approaches to enhance literacy engagement.

· Maintain high standards of professional practice and behaviour, including punctuality and appropriate dress attire.

· Performing other duties that may, from time to time, be assigned by the CEO and/or his/her delegate.


Eligibility criteria

Applicants must, by the closing date for the receipt of applications, satisfy all of the following requirements:

1. Bachelor’s MQF Level 6 degree (180 ECTS) in a relevant field (including Education, Theatre Studies, Languages)* or equivalent or higher.

2. A pass at SEC Level (MQF Level 3) with Grades 1 to 5 in both Maltese and English, or an equivalent or higher qualification in these subjects.

3. Evidence of proficiency in IT, preferably through certification such as the ECDL/ICDL or an equivalent qualification.

* Applicants holding a Bachelor’s MQF Level 6 degree in fields other than those mentioned above must provide a written justification of the relevance of their degree. The final determination of relevance rests solely with the Selection Board.
Applicants who provide official evidence that they are in the final phase of studies leading to a relevant degree may be considered. Employment will be subject to the successful achievement of the qualification within the first year of employment.
